چکیده
THE purpose of this work is the investigation of: (a) The reliability of the Koch's dark adaptometer. (b) The normal findings for minimum form and light senses on the instrument.. (c) The minimum form and light senses in subjects complaining of defective night vision, and (d) Conclusions, that might be drawn from these findings in helping to distinguish between psychogenic and organic night visual defect.

Night Visual Capacity of Neurotic Soldiers.
NIGHT blindness has been known since the time of -the ancient Egyptians and was described by Hippocrates in the second book of Prorrhetics. One thousand years after Hippocrates, the beneficial effects of liver on night blindness were described by the Byzantine physician Paulus Aegineta. Rhazes recognized no less than three varieties (Holcomb, 1934). Richerand described an unrecognized occupatio...
متن کاملOptical filter effects on night vision goggle acuity and preservation of dark adaptation.
INTRODUCTION The high output of night vision goggles (NVGs) can cause a loss of dark adaptation, resulting in suboptimal unaided vision. Optical filters have been designed to mitigate this problem by changing the overall output characteristics of the NVGs. METHODS Several aspects of visual performance related to NVG use were studied in a repeated measures design, filters versus no filters. NV...
متن کاملDisplay Considerations for Improved Night Vision Performance
Most displays viewed in dark environments can easily cause dazzling glare and affect a viewer’s dark adaptation state (night vision). In previous work we showed that legibility could be improved and dark adaptation preserved in low-light environments by using a display design with a specially selected spectral light emission. We used long-wavelength light (red) that is easily visible to dayligh...
متن کاملDiagnostic sensitivity and specificity of dark adaptometry for detection of age-related macular degeneration.
PURPOSE Difficulty with night vision is a common complaint of patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Consistent with this complaint, dark adaptation (DA) is substantially impaired in these patients. Because of the severity of the deficit, measurement of DA has been suggested as a means for the diagnosis of AMD. Previous methods for measurement of DA were time intensive (>30 minut...
متن کاملAssessment of Night Vision Problems in Patients with Congenital Stationary Night Blindness
Congenital Stationary Night Blindness (CSNB) is a retinal disorder caused by a signal transmission defect between photoreceptors and bipolar cells. CSNB can be subdivided in CSNB2 (rod signal transmission reduced) and CSNB1 (rod signal transmission absent). The present study is the first in which night vision problems are assessed in CSNB patients in a systematic way, with the purpose of improv...
